Being a Starbucks Partner
Being a Starbucks partner means you are more than just an employee – you are a member of our inclusive partner community. As a partner, you are invited to pursue development opportunities, both professionally and personally.
In addition to our apprenticeship and skills training, we offer out of store opportunities to widen your skills and provide valuable experience.
In 2013, we kicked off the first ever Starbucks Barista Championship – a competition to find and celebrate our very best baristas in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Now in its fourth year, thousands of partners from across 40 countries in the region have competed in a series of country challenges for the chance to show off their coffee expertise and be crowned top of their game in EMEA.
Baristas who make it to the finals must demonstrate a wide variety of skills, including:
- Hosting a coffee tasting to demonstrate their knowledge
- Creating a signature beverage from their own recipe
- Preparing a latte, cappuccino, Caramel Macchiato and Flat White (marks for technical and artistic skills)
The best way to get our partners to learn about our coffee is to see it up close and personal.
Every year, we send a group of around 40 partners from countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa to visit coffee farms and farmer support centres. Here, they see first-hand how our coffee is grown and processed, experience the journey from bean to cup and meet the farmers behind each Starbucks blend.
