How does My Starbucks Rewards work?

My Starbucks Rewards is easy – you can get started by registering a loaded Starbucks Card. This will automatically enter you into the Green level of the programme, which means you’ll receive a free beverage when you have used your Card 15 times (which equates to 15 stars). Plus you’ll receive news and offers if you have signed up for email and postal news. 

After you earn 50 stars in 12 months, you will qualify for the Gold level, where you will receive all the Green benefits plus free extras. Visit for more information about My Starbucks Rewards.

If you joined Starbucks Card Rewards before August, 2014 you will automatically be a Gold level member until your 12 month anniversary.

Is My Starbucks Rewards available in all your UK and Ireland stores?

There are over 600 stores in Ireland and the UK that offer My Starbucks Rewards. There are a small number of stores that are not able to accept Starbucks Card. You can use our store locator to see which stores accept Starbucks Card.

Can I track my progress in the programme and see how many stars I need until I reach the next level?

Yes. You will be able to log into your account and see how many stars you’ve earned, your current benefits, and how many stars you need to go until you reach the next level.

How soon will I be able to see the stars I’ve earned after using my registered Starbucks Card?

Stars earned from using your registered Starbucks card will be available on your account within 24 hours.

Do my stars expire?

If you are Green level, your stars towards your free drinks will remain on your account as long as you have any activity in the past two years. However, you have 1 year to achieve 50 stars and Gold level - after 1 year your Star counter towards Gold will be reset if you have not achieved Gold status.

If you are Gold level and you do not qualify for the Gold level again by your anniversary date (12 months after the date you qualified for Gold level), you will revert to the Green level and your Star count will reset to zero. If you earn 50 stars again within 12 months you’ll move from Green right back to Gold. This does not affect the stars you are collecting for your free beverage, which keep adding up until you get your next free beverage.

Will my barista tell me if I have a free reward waiting on my Starbucks Card?

No, your barista will not notify you if you have a free drink reward waiting - so be sure to watch for email notification or check your rewards status online. (If you are not signed up to receive email, sign into your account to change your contact preferences).

How will I know that I have my free drink reward loaded on my Card?

We’ll send you an email letting you know when your reward is loaded and ready to redeem.  Make sure you confirm your email address now to be sure you don’t miss a drink.  You can also check your available rewards by logging into your account.  Be sure to act quickly, as rewards expire 38 days after they are earned.  

Can I earn more than 1 free reward before I redeem? Is there a limit to how many free rewards I can have at any given time?

You continue to earn free rewards for every 15 Stars – and the rewards stay on your account until you use them or they expire.  There is no limit to the number of rewards you can have in your account at any one time.

Do I get to choose when I use my free drink reward? I like to choose something special and I don’t want my free reward to automatically deduct when I’m not expecting it to.

Yes. You are in control of your rewards! Even though your free reward is loaded onto your Card, you have to tell your barista when you want to use it. It does not deduct automatically on your next visit. Just be sure to use it before it expires.

I didn’t use my reward and it expired, why do you have expiration dates on rewards?

Rewards have an expiration date because we want to encourage members to use them. As our most loyal customers we want you to enjoy rewards because you deserve that free hand-crafted beverage. We hope you will visit us often enough that your rewards won't ever come close to their expiration date.

You can always check the status of your rewards if you log into your account. Click on "Manage My Rewards" and there you will find the number of Stars and the status of the rewards you have earned. Rewards can be redeemed by using your registered Card and letting your barista know you have a reward on your account . Your barista will use the digital coupon (with the soonest expiration date) and redeem it on the drink of your choice.

How do I redeem my free drink?

When you have a reward on your account, we'll send you an email. To redeem your reward at a participating Starbucks® store, you'll need a Starbucks Card associated with your account - either a physical Card, an eGift that you registered to the account. Tell your barista you'd like to redeem your reward, select the free beverage of your choice and give them your Card or scan your mobile app.

Do free drink rewards expire?

You will have 38 days after issue to redeem. You can check the status of your free rewards on your account.To find expiration dates through the Starbucks mobile app, go to the Rewards icon at the bottom and then go to the banner beneath your cup full of Stars. A My Rewards screen will appear where you can track your rewards history and view expiration dates.

To find expiration dates online, log in to your account and in the My Rewards section click on See More Details to the right. Click on Rewards History and a calendar with your Star history will show Stars and rewards earned. By clicking on a cup icon, you can view the details of the reward, including expiration date.

Will I get lots of email from Starbucks if I provide my email address?

You must provide your email address to receive your free reward notifications and other program-related transactional emails. You may choose to opt in or opt out of promotional emails - by opting in you will receive notice of the special offers available to you as a member. You can go to your account and change your settings any time.

Can I redeem my free reward at any store?

The majority of Starbucks Locations redeem free rewards. Some locations (often those located at service stations, airports, leisure parks etc) do not redeem rewards.

Will My Starbucks Rewards™ be recognized at all Starbucks® stores?

Customers will receive a Star for each transaction made at participating Starbucks ® stores.

Where can I redeem Digital Rewards?

Not all stores accepting Starbucks Cards can accept digital rewards. You can use our store locator using the ‘Accepts Rewards’ filter to see which stores accept Digital Rewards.

When are drink rewards available to use? Are they instantaneously available in the same transaction where I earn my 15th Star?

Free rewards generally load within 24 hours after you earn your 15th Star.

Do I need to have my registered Starbucks Card with me to redeem my free drink rewards?

Yes. You must use a registered Starbucks Card to redeem your reward.  If you have more than one card registered in your account, any of your registered cards can be used to redeem your reward.

Will you be changing the programme again anytime soon?

When will I receive exclusive offers and discounts?

On occasion, you’ll receive these offers and discounts by email or postal mail. Be sure you opt in to receive email and direct mail communications from us when you register.  

How many Starbucks Cards can I register as part of the new programme?

You can register an unlimited number of cards to your account.

What if my Star balance doesn’t look right? Who do I contact?

We want to make sure the balance on your account reflects your purchases accurately.  If the total number of stars doesn’t appear to be correct, please call 01 6770744 or 020 8834 5050 or email making sure you have your card number with you.

How do I maintain Gold level status?

Once you qualify for Gold level, you will be at that level for a full year from that date. Simply earn 50 additional stars before your anniversary date (the date you qualified for Gold level) and you will continue to enjoy all of the Gold level benefits for another year.

Can I qualify for multiple years in a single year? For example, if I earn 60 stars in the next year, will I be in the Gold level for the next two years?

No. Every year on your anniversary date (the date you qualified for Gold level), our system will look back and confirm whether or not you have earned the minimum 50 stars during that timeframe. If so, you’ll remain at the Gold level for another year.

Why do I have to pay with my Starbucks Card to participate in the programme?

The programme is designed to reward our many customers who use and pay with a Starbucks Card. 

Will the use of any Starbucks Card registered to me count toward my programme benefits?

Yes. The use of any card registered to your account will earn you stars and enable you to enjoy the benefits associated with your membership level.

Can I use my Starbucks Card when I travel internationally?

Starbucks Cards activated in any of the participating countries (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Mexico, and the Republic of Ireland) can be used to make purchases and be reloaded in any other participating country. Starbucks Cards must first be activated by loading money onto the card in the country of purchase before being used internationally.

Will I collect stars and receive rewards when travelling internationally?

Customers with registered cards in the following participating countries (UK, Republic of Ireland, USA and Canada) will collect stars when travelling internationally. However, as each country has a unique rewards programme, customers will not receive rewards (such as free extras) when using their cards internationally.
